Feel the Beat Dance Instructor Spotlight: Adrienne Smyth

For the first Dance Instructor Spotlight in our series, we are featuring one of our newest dance instructors at Feel the Beat, Adrienne Smyth. Adrienne has been dancing since she was little. She trained in a variety of styles, later focusing on jazz, tap, and contemporary. She was a part of her high school Poms team all four years. Currently, Adrienne attends MSU Denver where she is studying dance. She is also a member of Rocky Mountain Rhythm, a local tap company.

Tell us about your role at Feel the Beat. How long have you been at Feel the Beat and what drew you to the organization?

I started at Fee the Beat this past December. I teach adult classes currently, but I’m so excited to teach youth classes in the summer!

What is your personal mission statement and what about that mission statement resonates with you most?

I am always trying to effect change and have a positive impact on those around me. If I can improve someone’s day even a little, then I feel like I’ve done my job. It’s why I love teaching so much.

Is there a person in your life you credit as being a key to what motivates or inspires you on a daily basis? How have they impacted your life both personally and professionally?

I feel incredibly grateful to have a wonderful support system in my life. My biggest supporters are my parents and my partner. They make me believe I can do anything I set my mind to (which sounds cliche but there it is). They encourage me to take risks and follow my passions. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their constant love and support.

Tell us about a recent experience you’ve had in your role at Feel the Beat – something funny, inspiring, challenging, etc.

I love teaching at Feel the Beat because every day is different. Recently I had the opportunity to teach a new adult group. To see the joy that dance brought this group truly made my day!

Outside of dancing at Feel the Beat, what do you like to do for fun?

When I’m not dancing or teaching, I love to read. In the summers I spend a lot of time outside, camping, hiking, and backpacking.
