Feel the Beat Team Member Spotlight: Sarah Thomas

For the current Team Member Spotlight in our series featuring our amazing staff and dance instructors at Feel the Beat, we are featuring one of our newest dance instructors, Sarah Thomas. Sarah started dance at two years old and continued dancing for 12 years. She especially enjoyed ballet, lyrical, and tap. Later, Sarah decided to switch to cheerleading and was on her high school’s varsity team for all four years. Currently, Sarah is cheering for the University of Colorado.

Tell us about your role at Feel the Beat. How long have you been at Feel the Beat and what drew you to the organization?

I did my first Feel The Beat class with them as a student when I was 12! I decided to become a teacher for Feel the Beat in 2023. I love how inclusive Feel the Beat is. I love sharing the joy of dance with students of all abilities! I grew up with two deaf sisters, and I am working to make a world a more assessable place for all.

Is there a person in your life you credit as being a key to what motivates or inspires you on a daily basis? How have they impacted your life both personally and professionally?

My mom is my biggest inspiration. She is the most ambitious and dedicated woman I know. She is one of my biggest cheerleaders, and supports me unconditionally. She works as an advocate for people with disabilities and motivates me to do the same.

Tell us about a recent experience you’ve had in your role at Feel the Beat – something funny, inspiring, challenging, etc.

My favorite recent memory at Feel the Beat was seeing a student with hearing loss experience the vibrations in the floor. Her face lit up as soon as she felt the beat. These moments emphasize the importance of making dance available to all people.

Outside of dancing at Feel the Beat, what do you like to do for fun?

Outside of Feel the Beat you can find me hiking and exploring the outdoors! Some of my favorite things to do outdoors are iceskating, and rock climbing!
